Selene 42 « 20th Anniversary Edition »

A new Selene 42 Voyager Sedan will soon be launched in the Pearl River for its first sea trials. The first model of our “20th Anniversary Edition” is a yacht loaded with smart and clever improvements resulting from a deep and sound cooperation with the owner – a client who has owned four boats in the past, and has several lengthy ocean passages under his belt. Having visited the yard several times since last year, he has become a friendly character at the shipyard where our teams appreciate his experience. We always welcome our clients at the shipyard during the building process, and we understand that they love to receive updates of the construction of their yacht every now and then.

A refined interior

In essence, this 42 Voyager Sedan remains the same as his legacy predecessors, along with all the structural qualities that are the hallmark of Selene, as well as many elegant and original features, both technical and cosmetic, that make all the difference in the world. As usual, the devil is in the details, even though in this case, our Selene yachts are aiming for heaven…

First, the owner wanted a timeless mahogany interior, and as a result, we are confident this boat is going to remain classic for at least the two decades to come with its Herreshoff flair resembling an old-fashioned yacht. Nothing will age with its high-raise panels cabinetry, Chesterfield leather sofas, timber bookshelves, storage galore in every nook and cranny for provisioning and personal effects, white batten ceiling and teak and holly parquet, along with special 1930’s light fittings manufactured in England, with new Italian vintage faucets and Art Deco door handles. It is those little touches that are turning this yacht into a unique and pleasant masterpiece.

Built to the highest Selene standards

On the technical side, everything is obviously built to our highest Selene standards – a perfectly laid engine room with plenty of elbow room, a bullet-proof 180HP John Deere power plant, fuel polish, a powerful Northern Lights generator, sea-chest, hydraulic Key Power get-home motor, side thrusters, Echotec watermaker, Seakeeper gyroscope stabilizer, the latest up-to-date Garmin navigation suite, Iridium satellite communications and a Highfield 10’ RIB tender with Torqueedo electric outboard engine, etc. But the owner insisted on simplicity, and as such this yacht will have no large TV display on lift and no complicate sound system with a satellite TV dish. In his own words, “I am not planning to sail off-shore to watch CNN or the soccer World Cup. The permanent show will be through the yacht’s windows, I prefer to keep my personal library on board rather than a Blue Ray player…”

We listen to our clients…

The owner had bigger yachts with crew for twenty years, and has lived aboard the last vessel with his family for ten years. But in light of his grown-up child enrolling to university last year, the decision was made to build a smaller boat that he can handle and maintain with his wife for coastal cruising. He reckons that Selene has gracefully complied with all his wishes to suit his needs, without ever compromising the integrity of the vessel itself.

The result is a unique yacht that perfectly reflects its owner’s dream and expectations. It will be a safe haven and a home away from home where he will keep writing his novels while travelling. After all, this is what we do at Selene – we listen to our client’s story, and they are all different, and we make sure their yacht will not only be yacht, but a “life enhancer”…
