The new Selene 59 Ocean Clipper is the very latest iteration of Howard Chen’s talent… Designed for a Selene repeat customer in Europe who wanted a yacht as beautiful and safe as any Selene, but faster in order to explore the Mediterranean Sea without sacrificing any of the ocean-going capability of the Selene Ocean Trawlers. Howard Chen’s design team took on the challenge, working with the renowned Dutch designer Guido de Groot, and the new Ocean Clipper semi-displacement line was born !

The first yacht was launched in November 2017 at the shipyard on the Pearl River, and reached the expected speed of 19 knots with her twin engines. With three luxury staterooms, a large salon and a wide pilothouse with a commanding view of the surroundings, a large cockpit and a wide flybridge the Selene 59 Ocean Clipper reveals all the skills and expertise of the Selene shipwrights and engineers.


Thanks to the traditional and perfectly aligned  Selene joinery and the beautiful cream leather upholstery, the interior ambiance is warm and cheerful. It has the feeling of a compact super-yacht with impressive hi-gloss varnish, shiny hardware and elegant light fixtures.The pilothouse is a captain’s dream with a large dashboard, which can host a full array of electronic displays and instruments, and the raised settee, concealing a cozy watch-berth, is a perfect observation spot for passengers. The passengers have many other seating options on this yacht: the fore-deck features two large loungers to port and starboard and the flybridge, accessible from the pilot- house, is a second comfortable salon sheltered under a hard-top with a sliding roof! On the technical side, the engine room is also a captain or engineer’s dream with an easy access hatch in the cockpit and perfectly laid-out systems. With the generous soundproofing, one can easily forget the two Caterpillar engines when under way. To the Selene motto « Grace and Strength » Howard Chen has added the magic of « Speed »…

The vessel is fitted with two (2) 120/240VAC 50amp shore inlets at the stern. AC selector control switches allow the operator to select the source(s) of power from either the generator(s) or shore power. AC service is distributed through custom electrical panels containing 240VAC section, volt and amp meters and individual breakers and fuses for branch circuits.
One (1) Mastervolt 120VAC, 2.5kw(Option) inverter system for limited ships power, control power to the helm station and for refrigeration during times when the generators and shore power are offline.
AC Outlets are standard Vimar American format 120VAC. Locations TDB
All outlets in head compartments, mechanical spaces, exterior and galley are Vimar GFCI type. All external outlets have water proof covers.

The DC electrical system is a 24VDC distribution system with a maximum capacity of 600 amp/hours. The DC system is to provide power the ships inverter system and provide power to the helm station DC equipment, and ships service. DC service is distributed through custom electrical panels containing 24VDC section, volt and amp meters and individual breakers and fuses for branch circuits.
Standard batteries are located in lazarette
24VDC ships battery bank – Consists of 24, Vision 12 volt 200D AGM batteries each. A total battery bank capacity of 600 amp/hours is provided for control, ships equipment and limited operation without operation of a generator or shore power connection.
Main engine starting – (2) Vision 12V 6FM200D-X batteries connected in series for 24VDC 200AMP starting. Switching logic to parallel with 24VDC ships bank for emergency starting.
Generator starting- (2) – Vision 12V 120H batteries connected in series for 24VDC 120AMP starting. Switching logic to parallel with 24VDC ships bank for emergency starting.
24VDC battery charging:
One Victron 24VDC, 100amp and one 80 amp battery chargers
One Mastervolt 120AV 2.5KW (Option) Inverter/charger provides a total of 30 amps at 24VDC for the ships battery bank.
Main engine starting battery banks (24V 200AMP) is charged from the respective engine alternator 80AMP. These alternators are also available through automatic charging relays to support the ships battery bank.
Generator starting battery banks (24V 120AMP) is charged from the respective engine alternator 40AMP.
Each charging source can be switched to accommodate any single failure of a charging device.
All wire to be marine grade, tinned conductor, sized according to the ABYC Standard
