An exhilarating new year has started in Zhuhai… The hull of a beautiful Selene 72 Ocean Explorer has just left the lamination hall and was moved a few days ago on our flatbed truck to the assembly line in the main hall where the deck will be adjusted. A lovely 42 Voyager Sedan is reaching completion and will be launched in two weeks at our docks in the river nearby for sea trials, while a Selene 60 Ocean Explorer has left the assembly line for delivery to her happy owner. With several new projects on the drawing board, 2019 will be exciting and challenging for Selene Yachts and their design and engineering teams…

Farther on the oceans

Our yachts will always be hand-made luxury vessels, but we are also exploring new greener technologies like Diesel-electric propulsion, shallow-draft bi-hull explorers and fuel cells power generation for our smallest models, aiming at extended stay at anchor, a lower carbon footprint, silence and less maintenance chores. We are looking forward to bringing you farther on the oceans… But always peacefully and in style. A selene will always be a Selene!

Three yachts to be launched early next year

The owner of a beautiful Selene 42 Voyager Sedan which will be launched next year spent a few hours with our engineers and had the opportunity to design his dashboard layout at the helm and on the flying bridge. He could also admire the perfect joinery and the teak and holly floor which were completed last week. The engine room of this boat is 75% completed and a lot of attention has been paid to easy and practical service and maintenance of all the systems including a gyrostabiliser and the hydraulic get-home motor.

Our latest Selene 60 Ocean Explorer with his shiny hull and stainless-steel railings, luxury interior including a jacuzzi on the deck and a smart floor heating system is also almost ready for sea trial while a Selene 60 Classic is taking shape fifty meters away in the hall. In a few days, we will move the hull of an impressive Selene 72 Ocean Explorer from the lamination workshop to the assembly line while two other Voyager Sedan yachts 38 and 42 will reach completion early next year.

With a couple of amazing projects on the drawing board, including hybrid propulsion and a fast bi-hull vessel, Selene people are busier than ever!

« We certify that the following recreational craft Selene 59 Ocean Clipper is in compliance with the essential safety requirements of Directive 2013/53/EU. »

The Selene 59 Ocean Clipper was RINA Certified a few days ago. This new model, which was officially presented during the Cyprus-Limassol boat show last month show was launched at the shipyard on the Pearl River a few month ago, and reached the expected speed of 19 knots with her twin engines.

With three luxury staterooms, a large salon and a wide pilothouse with a commanding view of the surroundings, a large cockpit and a wide flybridge the Selene 59 Ocean Clipper reveals all the skills and expertise of the Selene shipwrights and engineers.

Grace, strenght and speed

Thanks to the traditional and perfectly aligned Selene joinery and the beautiful cream leather upholstery, the interior ambiance is warm and cheerful. It has the feeling of a compact super-yacht with impressive hi-gloss varnish, shiny hardware and elegant light fixtures. The pilothouse is a captain’s dream with a large dashboard, which can host a full array of electronic displays and instruments, and the raised settee, concealing a cozy watch-berth, is a perfect observation spot for passengers. The passengers have many other seating options on this yacht: the fore-deck features two large loungers to port and starboard and the flybridge, accessible from the pilot- house, is a second comfortable salon sheltered under a hard-top with a sliding roof! On the technical side, the engine room is also a captain or engineer’s dream with an easy access hatch in the cockpit and perfectly laid-out systems. With the generous soundproofing, one can easily forget the two Caterpillar engines when under way.

To the Selene motto « Grace and Strength » Howard Chen has added the magic of « Speed »…

The famous Dutch designer Guido de Groot, Selene Design Studio, James Fwu of JFNA in Taiwan for the CE certification design, including all the hydrostatic and structural design as well as the MEP system designs, have cooperated for several months to design this new trans-oceanic yacht which will be one of the aces of the Selene Ocean Yachts family.

With a LOA of 79’, a beam of 10’-5” and a 158,688 Lbs displacement, this new Selene 72 is ready for world explorations in style.

To the full beam master stateroom with its walk-in closet and three guest cabins, the Selene 72 adds a large captain and crews quarters aft with two cabins and private heads. The professionally laid-out and roomy engine room, with its effective sound-proofing, found on all Selene Yachts and its single Cummins 670 HP engine will offer a 9-knot cruise speed and a top speed of 12.5 knots with 3,000 US gallons of fuel.

The flagship of the Selene Explorer line

This beautiful 72’ yacht is the flagship of the Selene Explorer line. Once again, Howard Chen and his team have created an exceptional ocean going vessel with a moderate draft (6’-6”) ready for shallow water exploration. This yacht will be a head-turner whether you are cruising in a Borneo river, anchored in front of a Greek island, or cruising in the Princess Louisa Inlet in British Columbia!

John and Kathy Youngblood have been cruising with their now famous « Mystic Moon », a Selene 53, since she was commissioned in early 2005. They kept their yacht in the Pacific Northwest, cruising British Columbia and Alaska until 2007 and headed South to warm and sunny seas, spending five years cruising Mexico and Central America as far south as Columbia, and have finished a loop of the Caribbean before heading to the Pacific Ocean…

“Our learning curve has been somewhat steep, we were newbies when we started out in 2005, and we have had so much to learn. But take heart all you other newbies, if we can do it, so can you! And thus far, the journey has been as wonderful as we had hoped, and the payback immense, in both experiences and friends we have made along the way.”

The Ring of Fire

In their blog he Youngbloods tell us the full story of « Mystic Moon » and her crew from British Columbia to the Pacific Ocean, and they are now in… Japan, preparing for their next passage from the Northern tip of Japan to Alaska along the famous Ring of Fire. The Ring of Fire is a major area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean where many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur. In a 40,000 km horseshoe shape, it is associated with a nearly continuous series of oceanic trenches, volcanic arcs, and volcanic belts and plate movements. It has 452 volcanoes, more than 75% of the world’s active and dormant volcanoes.

May 2018, getting ready for the passage to Alaska

After some technical preparation on their Selene 53, careful weather planning and some tedious paperwork because of a new Japanese customs regulation requesting now a list of ten ports in Japan, the crew of « Mystic Moon » is ready to go! Their plan is to leave for the 207 NM run from Hakodate to Kushiro where they should arrive on Wednesday, 23rd. Another Selene captain will meet the crew there for the next leg from Kushiro to Petropavlovsk in Russia, A 900 NM and 5-day passage.

A few months ago, Jade, a Selene 66 owned by Joel Marc, a French captain, followed the same route. Selene yachts are tailored for exploration!

We wish John and Kathy fair winds and a safe passage !

On May 12th, the brand new Selene 4942 has left the shipyard. The 34,200 kg were trucked at night by a special flatbed trailer. Then lifted onto a barge on the Pearl River bound to Hong Kong port where the yacht will be loaded on a container ship. She will reach her final destination in the USA in three weeks and be off-loaded on June, 1st.

The flagship of the small Selene Yachts

The Selene 49 is the flagship of the small Selene yachts. It is the next generation evolution of the very popular Selene 47. It features the Deep-Hull™ design and Cruiser Stern™, which improves headroom in the engine room and lazarette and makes the hull even more efficient than its predecessor.

The Selene 49 has a very traditional « salty » look from the outside. Another significant difference is a wider flybridge giving space for entertaining friends and family with style in the open air, with ample room on the aft deck for a dinghy and hydraulic crane. The flybridge layout with a canvas cover or a hard-top includes an L-shaped settee and table and a bar with sink and BBQ. The hull itself is deeper than the Selene 47 and is meant to carve through the water.

More space everywhere inside and on decks

The longer LOA of the Selene 49 translates to an 8” increase in the cockpit and 4” more in the salon. The living space is large and spacious for the long cruising days. The salon is luxuriously finished in teak. Past the L-shaped dinette for four, the U-shaped galley forward has granite countertops and modern appliances, including a full-size refrigerator with freezer. The two or three-stateroom accommodations down below are spacious, due to the full hull sections forward. The master stateroom has a queen-size island berth with teak and holly steps on both sides, plus two large cedar-lined hanging lockers.

Headroom for the engine room has increased by a whole foot and the larger Cummins QSL 9.0 330 horsepower engine is standard. The Selene 49 is an excellent long range cruising boat with a D/L ratio at full load of 316, and A/B ratio at full load of 2.54. At 1,800 rpm, the Selene 49 has a cruising speed of 8.5 knots for a range of 2,000 nautical miles. The 49 also boasts an integral swim platform with a telescopic swim ladder, and beneath the 18″ hull extension Cruiser Stern™ there is extra room in the lazarette for storing gear and supplies, and at the same time greater buoyancy to offset the weight of the larger flybridge.

A real explorer vessel

As the flagship of the smaller Selenes, the Selene 49 boasts a level of luxury normally only found on its larger sisters in the range, but all in an affordable package that’s easy to handle as a couple.

The Selene 49 is a real explorer vessel…

Howard Chen and Guido de Groot, the talented and famous Dutch designer, who has designed many mega-yachts including some Feadship projects, have joined forces one more time after the successful launch of the Selene 92 Ocean Explorer.

The result is a beautiful compact super-yacht containing many of the features one would only find on a much bigger yacht, like an exceptionally large flybridge with enough space for a dining table, a barbecue and comfortable loungers. The decks can even support an optional jacuzzi! For the owner who intends to hire a professional captain, the accommodations aft are ready for three crew members, with their own private head.

The first Selene 60 Guido de Groot is still under production line at our shipyard in Zhuhai. The new fluid and sleek lines typical of Guido de Groot’s style are already clearly visible in the modern and appealing design. This new design has already attracted several inquires form current Selene owners…

AN EYE-CATCHER…

This beautiful yacht will be an eye-catcher in St-Tropez or Miami. But in its heart it’s also a strong passagemaker like any other Selene Ocean yacht. It has a perfectly laid-out engine room, the most up-to-date systems and a state of the art pilothouse. She will be ready for world voyages, and can also easily be operated by a couple or a family contemplating a circumnavigation.

The launch customer for this new design has specified a wide body layout in order to increase the salon beam. It is being designed to offer a better visibility for his guests from inside. Future boats will be available with a more typical, one or two sided decks configuration.

A single or twin engine power plant with 2,000 gallons of fuel will push the Selene 60 Guido de Groot at 10 knots to any remote destination in luxury and style. The yacht can be stabilized with hydraulic fins or Seakeeper gyro-stabilization depending on the owner’s preference.

A LONG RANGE VOYAGER

With a full-beam owner’s stateroom including a « his and hers » head and a large walk-in closet, plus three luxury guest staterooms and two optional crew cabins in the transom, the Selene 60 Guido de Groot is a true long range voyager. It could also be a very economical mini-superyacht for charter operations in the Caribbean or the Mediterranean sea…

Stay tuned for more photos and the launching very soon!

« Dear Selene friends,

2017 was a challenging year, but is nearly over, and an exhilarating year 2018 is coming.

We have several new boats under construction, and several new projects that will be launched in early 2018. We have just delivered a brand new semi-displacement Selene 59 Ocean Clipper and we will soon have a 103’ yacht ready for sea trials. Several new Guido de Groot designs are on the drawing board, and the beautiful Selene 60 Ocean Explorer is under construction, while two Selene 49 Ocean Trawlers are nearly completed for their Seattle clients and three Selene 38 and 42 Europa are in the production line.

In the coming new year, we will have 82’ and 106’ projects starting, and a new fast boat series for the Australian dealership. We also have the opportunity to be part of the Aluminum Superyacht project, and we are involved in the booming “Yacht Town” development in China.

We are ready for 2018!

With a new team in charge of a strong marketing program, and a very talented and experienced Taiwanese manager who is taking care of the Design & Engineering Department, we are ready for 2018! The overall endeavor is to make the Selene yachts getting stronger and stronger in design, quality and brand!

We wish you all a peaceful and prosperous year 2018! »

Produced by the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS) and the National Space Development Agency (NASDA), the spacecraft was launched on September 14th, 2007. Selene was part of a renewed global interest in lunar exploration; it was the largest lunar mission since the Apollo program.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Ten years later, the story of “Kaguya” inspired our creative design team who wishes you a Happy and Prosperous New Year 2018 with this audacious Selene 45 landing on the Moon…
